Easy Nutella mousse is a decadent dessert that capitalizes on the irresistible flavor of Nutella, the beloved chocolate-hazelnut spread. This simple recipe takes minutes to prepare and requires only two ingredients: Nutella and heavy whipping cream.

    A jar of Nutella mousse.

Decadent Nutella mousse is a luscious dessert that's a delightful variation of the classic chocolate mousse that highlights the distinct taste of Nutella. The airy mousse is made by folding together melted chocolate hazelnut spread with whipped cream.

The texture is incredibly smooth and light, almost like a cloud, yet it's decadently rich in flavor. Chilling the mousse in the refrigerator allows the flavors to meld together and the texture to come together beautifully. This dessert is a delightful treat for chocolate lovers and those who appreciate the delightful pairing of chocolate and hazelnut.

Nutella mousse can be served on its own in dessert cups or used as a filling for pastries, cakes, or other confections. Like Nutella brownies, it's a delightful option for a Nutella lover or anyone who appreciates a delicious dessert.

    2-Ingredient Nutella Mousse Recipe

Two-ingredient mousse, how does it work? To make Nutella mousse, one combines softened Nutella with whipped cream to create a light and fluffy texture. The Nutella adds its signature rich chocolate hazelnut flavor, while the whipped cream contributes to the mousse's airy and creamy consistency.

This dessert is quick and straightforward to prepare, requiring minimal ingredients (only two). Once assembled, the mousse is chilled, allowing the flavors to meld together and the texture to set, resulting in a velvety and indulgent chocolate treat.

    • Simple Ingredients: This easy Nutella mousse requires only two ingredients.
    • Minimal Prep Time: It takes minutes to prepare this decadent dessert. The hardest part is waiting for it to set in the refrigerator before you dig in.
    • Eggless Mousse: Unlike many other chocolate mousse recipes, this one uses no eggs.
    • Easy Dessert: It does not get easier than a dessert that takes minutes to prepare and with only two ingredients. This recipe is perfect for dinner parties or celebrations, but thanks to its simplicity, you can whip up this Nutella chocolate mousse any day of the week.

    Ingredients

The ingredients you need for this recipe.
    • Nutella - Use store-bought or homemade chocolate hazelnut spread.
    • Heavy Whipping Cream (cold) - It is essential to keep the cream cold before whipping it so that the whipped cream can achieve a light and fluffy consistency before the Nutella is folded in.

See the recipe card for the ingredient quantities.

    Instructions

Whipped cream in a large bowl with a rubber spatula.
Whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks.
A large bowl of whipped cream with Nutella folded into it.
Fold Nutella into the whipped cream with a rubber spatula.
    1. Place Nutella in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it for 30 seconds. Set it aside to let it cool.
    2. Place the heavy whipping cream in a chilled bowl. Using an electric mixer, whip until stiff peaks form.
    3. Gently fold the Nutella into the whipped cream in two separate parts until completely incorporated.
    4. Spoon or pipe the mousse into the desired serving dish or dishes, and refrigerate for 2-4 hours to set.

    Variations

Chocolate Chip: Fold in ā…“ cup of mini semi-sweet chocolate chips.

    Serving Suggestions

Nutella mousse, while delicious on its own, is welcoming to toppings and garnishes. Top servings with a dollop of homemade chantilly cream or whipped cream. Serve it with a sauce like raspberry compote, salted caramel sauce, or chocolate sauce. Try chopped hazelnuts, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries for garnish. For a fun take, top each serving with a Ferrero Rocher candy.

As for the serving dishes, I love serving this mousse in individual jars, small bowls, or even shot glasses. This chocolate hazelnut mousse makes for a delicious cake filling, too. Or spread it into a prepared Oreo or graham cracker crust for an easy pie.

    Suggested Equipment

    • Large Bowl
    • Electric Mixer - Stand Mixer or Handheld Mixer
    • Rubber Spatula
    • Piping Bag

    Storage

Store the mousse in desired serving dishes covered in plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

    Expert Tips

    1. Keep a close eye on the heavy cream as you whip it to avoid over-whipping it into butter.
    2. Use a chilled bowl and whisk attachment. Cold equipment keeps the cream cold, allowing the fat in the cream to whip better.
    3. Use cold, heavy whipping cream. The fat molecules are harder when cold, holding the air bubbles in place as the cream whips for a light and fluffy texture.
    4. Carefully fold the Nutella into the whipped cream using a rubber spatula to avoid deflating the cream.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Can you freeze Nutella mousse?

Transfer the mousse to a freezer-safe airtight container and freeze it for up to 2 months. Eat mousse straight from the freezer, or thaw it in the refrigerator. Remember, though, that the thawed mousse will no longer have the same texture and consistency it originally had.Ā

    What is mousse?

Mousse is a light and airy dessert commonly made with whipped cream or egg whites, which are folded into a flavored mixture. Mousses can be sweet or savory but always have a smooth, creamy texture and rich taste.
