Can you cook pierogies in the air fryer? Yes! The best and easiest method to prepare pierogies is with the air fryer. The pierogies come out crispy with a soft, tender filling. Salted butter coats the filled dumplings for extra flavor.

Store-bought pierogies are pre-cooked, so there is no need to boil them. Coat them in butter and place them straight into the air fryer basket. Some of the best-known brands of premade pierogies include Mrs. T's and Kasia's.

Like with air fryer smashed potatoes, the air fryer simplifies and quickens the cooking process. Minimal effort is needed for this simple and delicious side dish.

    What are Pierogies?

Pierogies are European-filled dumplings made with unleavened dough. These half-moon-shaped delicacies are one of the most identifiable Polish foods. They are filled with both sweet and savory fillings. Some common fillings include cooked meat, potato and cheese, sauerkraut and mushroom, cream cheese, and strawberry.

Boiled and usually pan-fried, the dumplings have a chewy, crispy exterior. They are served as a side dish alongside sausage (or other meat) or with sour cream for dipping.

    Pierogies in the Air Fryer

As stated above, air-frying pierogies is one of the simplest ways to prepare them. Pierogies can be air-fried straight from the refrigerator or freezer. Butter coats the outside of each dumpling for elevated flavor. Here is why you will love this simple side dish:

    • Pierogies are ready in 10 minutes or less.
    • There is no prep required.
    • The air fryer does all of the work.
    • Serve pierogies as an appetizer, snack, or side dish.

    Ingredients

The ingredients you need for this recipe.
    • Prepared Pierogies (store-bought)
    • Unsalted Butter (melted)

See the recipe card for ingredient quantities.

    How to Air Fry Pierogies

STEP 1 - Preheat the air fryer to 400° F.

Butter slathered uncooked pierogies in the basket of an air fryer.
Place butter-coated pierogies in the air fryer basket.
Golden brown pierogies in the basket of an air fryer.
    Cook pierogies until golden brown.

STEP 2 - Coat the pierogies in melted butter. *Note: The butter will go from melted to softened - this is okay. It will melt over the perogies as they cook.

STEP 3 - Place the butter-coated pierogies in the air fryer basket, do not overlap them. Cook for 8-10 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden brown.

How Long to Cook Pierogies in the Air Fryer

The cooking time varies depending on if the pierogies are cooked straight from the fridge or freezer. In addition, the type of air fryer will also impact the cooking time.

    • Frozen Pierogies - 10-12 minutes
    • Refrigerated Pierogies - 8-10 minutes

    Substitutions

    • Salted Butter - Olive Oil, Olive Oil Spray

    What to Serve with Pierogies

Pierogies are versatile for serving as an appetizer or side dish that pairs well with meats and condiments. One of the most common pairings is pierogies with sauerkraut and kielbasa. Enjoy the savory dumplings with sausage, ham, bacon, and caramelized onions. Serve perogies with sour cream, mustard, or horseradish for dipping.

    Suggested Equipment

    • COSORI Air Fryer Max XL

    Storage

Pierogies are best served immediately but will keep fresh for up to 3 days. Transfer cooled pierogies to an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator.

Can I freeze air-fried pierogies? Re-freezing pierogies is not recommended.

    Expert Tips

    1. Preheat the air fryer for even cooking.
    2. Grease the basket with cooking spray to prevent the pierogies from sticking to the basket.
    3. Avoid overlapping the pierogies in the air fryer basket. If needed, cook the pierogies in multiple batches.
    4. Cooking time may vary depending on the brand of air fryer used.
