    Ingredients and Substitutions

The ingredients you need for this recipe.
    • Sweet Potatoes (peeled and sliced into wedges) - You will need 9oz. This could mean one large potato or a couple of smaller ones.
    • Avocado Oil - Use a high smoke point oil like avocado, canola, or grapeseed oil.
    • Seasonings - This recipe calls for paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. However, these potato wedges are versatile to almost any seasoning.

How to Cut Sweet Potatoes into Wedges

This method depends on how large your sweet potatoes are. If they are particularly large, you may have to do some additional cutting. *Peel the potatoes, prior to slicing.

1 - Using a chef's knife, slice each potato in half lengthwise. Slice off the ends.

2 - With the cut side down, slice each half in half lengthwise.

3 - Finally, slice each quarter in half. *The key is that all of the wedges are the same size for even cooking.

    Instructions

1 - In a small bowl, stir the seasonings together.

Seasoned wedges in a clear bowl.

2 - In a medium bowl, toss the potato wedges with the oil. Sprinkle with the spices and toss again to coat.

Seasoned sweet potato wedges in an air fryer basket.

3 - Transfer the seasoned potato wedges to the air fryer basket and cook at 400 degrees F for 10-15 minutes, or until desired crispiness. Turn halfway through cooking.

4 - Serve immediately with desired sauces.

    Equipment

    • Air-Fryer: This COSORI Air Fryer Max XL has a large basket perfect for making a variety of dishes, (including this one).
    • Peeler: This OXO Good Grips Swivel Peeler is ideal for peeling potatoes easily and comfortably.
    • Chef's Knife: Sweet potatoes have a firm interior so you will want a chef's knife to slice through them. I love my imarhu Japanese Chef Knife.
    • Large Tongs: Ideally, you will need large tongs for tossing (you can also toss by hand). I have these OXO Good Grips 12-inch Tongs.

    Recipe Tips

PREHEAT THE AIR FRYER - While it is not absolutely necessary to preheat the air fryer prior to cooking, it is preferred. Why? Much like an oven, placing the potato wedges into a preheated air fryer provides even cooking thanks to any even temperature throughout the cooking process.

LINE THE AIR FYRER WITH PARCHMENT - For easy cleaning and less mess, line the air fryer basket with a sheet of parchment paper before adding the potato wedges.

DO NOT OVERCROWD THE BASKET - For even cooking, do not overcrowd the basket. Allow space between each sweet potato wedge. If needed, heat them in separate batches.

ALL AIR FRYERS HEAT DIFFERENTLY - All air fryers heat differently, which means that one air fryer may cook faster than another. While the temperature will remain the same, cooking time may vary between fryers. For this reason, keep an eye on the potatoes as they approach the ten-minute mark. Cooking time will vary between 10-15 minutes. *This will also depend on how crispy you want them.

These air fryer sweet potato wedges are delicious on their own or alongside your favorite sandwich. I love to garnish them with fresh herbs and flakey salt. Here are some of my favorite things to pair them with.

    • Cheese - Shredded or Grated Parmesan Cheese, Crumbled Feta, Crumbled Blue Cheese
    • Burgers and Sandwiches
    • Cracker Crusted Chicken Nuggets
    • Steak or Chicken

    Storing, Reheating, and Freezing

    • STORE - Transfer cooled wedges to an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 3-4 days.
    • REHEAT - While best served immediately after cooking, there are multiple methods of which you can reheat these potato wedges.
      • Air Fryer - Cook at 350 F for 3-5 minutes, or until heated through.
      • Microwave - Microwave until heated through.
    • FREEZE - To freeze, transfer completely cooled potato wedges onto a sheet tray. Place the sheet tray into the freezer and freeze until potatoes are frozen. Transfer frozen fries to an airtight container or freezer-safe bag. Freeze for up to 3 months.

    FAQ

Can I use baking spray instead of oil?

For the best crisp I suggest oil, however, oil sprays work in this recipe too. Be sure to spray the basket and the potato wedges (before seasoning).

Do I need to peel the skin off sweet potatoes?

No, you can leave the skin on if desired. Be sure to scrub the skin clean before slicing the potatoes though.

Are air fried sweet potato wedges healthier than fries?

Yes, these sweet potato wedges are healthier than French fries. This is thanks to the air frying process and the need for significantly less oil.
