These Chocolate Sugar Cookies are subtly sweet and chocolaty. They are perfect with a glass of cold milk!

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ tablespoon instant coffee


  • Preheat oven to 375° F. In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  • In a mixer bowl fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla, mixing until combined. Add instant coffee, mix to combine.
  • Add the dry mixture to the butter mixture in three parts, mixing well and making sure to scrape bowl after each addition.
  • Scoop dough and place onto uncreased sheet tray, 2-in apart. Bake cookies for 13-15 minutes. Allow to cool slightly before transferring to cooling rack. Repeat process with remaining dough.


*Chocolate chips would be a great addition to these. Fold chocolate chips in after all ingredients have been combined.
