Sorbet Parfaits: Think healthy thoughts, it’s January

Hello new year and hello new possibilities.

It’s interesting how the thought of a new year feels like a fresh start, but alas it is. I feel a sense of revitalization and excitement for what lies ahead in 2018. Though I am not one to make a resolution, one of my main goals is to take control of my life and everything involved within it.

We all have a desire to be lazy and passive, but what results is a lack of curiosity, attention, and drive. This year I’m doing me. There I said it. The first step towards being selfless is to be selfish. I am not always so good at that. My goal is to pay better attention to my priorities and what is in front of me in the present and near future.

A fresh start in health and wellness

Towards the end of 2017, I became very fatigued and lazy. This was the result of not enough exercise and insufficient nutrients from food. Normally my love and I exercise 4-5 days a week, but some weeks towards the end of 2017 we were exercising 2-3 days due to busy schedules.

Always make time for exercise and healthy eating

It’s only been a few days back in the old routine and I am feeling more energetic and focussed. My head is clearer and my stomach is happy. Health is the first wealth. Too often we become distracted in life and lose sight of the important things like health, the people and nature around you, and all the things you have to be thankful for.

Many people make their resolution to lose weight and eat right. And that is a fantastic thing. But, make sure  if this is you to turn this healthy resolution into a lifestyle. It will transform more than just your physical health.

Sorbet Parfaits

Sorbet parfaits are my play on acai bowls. Simply find a natural berry sorbet and combine with all the good stuff. The base of your sorbet parfait should be something dry and firm like granola to soak up any softening sorbet. The sunflower seeds, or the seed of your choice, add a nice savory, salt flavor to the parfait. The parfait is layered with fresh berries and bananas for a satisfying treat.

  1. Place your favorite granola at the base of a glass. Top with a sprinkling of sunflower or pumpkin seeds.
  2. Top granola layer with your favorite fresh berry. (I used blueberries.)
  3. Place a scoop of berry sorbet on top of first two layers. Cover with banana slices.
  4. Repeat layers until the parfait elements reach the top of the glass.
